Discussion
This is the foundation of any project. We will meet with you in person, over the phone, or through email to determine exactly what you want. During these meetings we will determine the key aspects of your project including:
- What type of project is this? Do you need a fresh new website, a re-design of your current website, an addition of an application to your current website, or something entirely new.
- What main features will this project include? Dream big! What do you want your poject to do and what functionality are must haves. This gives us an idea of the scope of the project.
- What is the demographic of your target audience? Are you trying to reach individuals, companies, or other groups of people.
- We want to know more about your business What makes you or your company unique? How do you stand out from your competitors or others online within a specific industry.
- What are your goals with this project? If there isn’t a goal or purpose, we are not the right company for you. What do you want to accomplish with this project.
Once we have gathered this information, we will provide you will a "ballpark" price quote. This allows you to check your budget. Do you have room for some of those extra features or do we develop the project in phases as your budget allows.
Research and Analysis
Once we have determined the specifics of your needs, we will begin researching other businesses or individuals within your industry. We will look at the common consistencies and industry standards within their websites. Then we will use the information you have given us to determine how we can make you stand out from your competition.
Proposal, Sketching, and Drafts
Once we have the foundation of the project and an understanding of your industry, we will use the material and information you provide to develop a project proposal. The development proposal will include information specific to the completion of your specific project outlining the details of the development. With the proposal we may also include initial drafts and concept sketches of the design of your project.
Upon your acceptance of our development proposal the design process continues. However, if you have any issues or concerns with the proposal we will continue to meet with you until you are satisfied.
Planning & Content
Using the development proposal as our guide, we will start to outline the project navigation, page elements, and page appropriate content. In general, you are responsible for providing all written content for your website. However, we do offer copywriting services at an additional cost.
Initial Design & Feedback
We will provide you with two single page templates. One of the main page of your project and a second of a sub page of your project. The graphic templates are the look and feel of the website and include the layout of the logo, navigation, header elements, text areas, banners, sidebar elements, and footer elements of the website. The graphic templates are created using Adobe Photoshop. Two graphic templates will be made available for review and approval.
One template will display the main page of the website and the other will be a generic sub-page. The templates will be placed online in the form of a .jpg image file. The templates will represent how the site will look on the internet, however they will not be internet ready so file size and download times will be larger than normal. The text and image content on the templates may be stock images and filler content. This is only to better display the different aspects of the design and will be updated during site creation.
Design Updates & Approval
If you are unhappy with the graphic templates, new templates will be created based on your input, websites with similar designs, the current logo, and other sites within your industry. If you are still unhappy with the graphic templates, a third set of templates can be created. The third set and any additional graphic template thereafter will require hourly billing outside of this proposal.
You must make all structural changes to the design of the website prior to approval of the graphic templates. Changes to the site structure after the approval of the graphic templates will be billed hourly.
Website Development
Once the graphic template has been approved, it will be converted to web formats and the site content will be appropriately added to each page. The website design will be standards compliant benefiting search engine visibility, usability, and accessibility.
Client Feedback / Development Loop
This is really a continuation of Step 7. You will have access to the development project in order to view the progress at any time. Feel free to request a meeting, call, or email changes or any updates during this process
Usability & Functionality Testing
Your project will go through several stages of testing including:
- XHTML validation
- CSS validation
- Section 508 validation
- Accessibility validation
- Multi-browser compatibility validation
These test check the accessibility and validity of the XHTML markup and CSS making sure the widest possible audience can successfully view your website. We will also test all functionality of the website or application to work out all the bugs prior to publishing your project.
Approval & Publication
Once your project has been completed consistent with the development proposal and to your complete satisfaction, we will help you publish your project on an appropriate platform. We offer free unlimited phone support on all custom applications and offer support to the best of our abilities on third-party integrated applications. We will help train you and your team on the proper use of all applications.
What happens if you run into a bug or problem after launch? We work very hard to minimize bugs in our applications prior to launch, however difference in hosting environments and coding errors slip through our testing procedures. In the event that there is a bug in your project, we strive to correct it within 24 hours of notification. But we don’ stop there. We offer maintenace packages providing monthly updates to our custom applications as well as third-party integrated applications to maintain their security and integrity.
